Questions
Which do I need, PDLC or DLC?
If the problem is people seeing in, choose PDLC. It switches between clear and frosted. If the problem is sun, heat or glare, choose DLC. It tints the glass dark and you can still see out. Rooms that need both can have the two films on different panes.
Can smart film go on my existing glass?
Yes. Self-adhesive retrofit film sticks to clean, flat glass on site, so your frames stay. We cut it to your sizes and run the wiring to the edge of the pane.
What is the difference between lamination and retrofit film?
Lamination film goes between two sheets of glass to make new smart glass, which suits new builds, partitions and doors. Retrofit film is self-adhesive and goes onto glass you already have.
What happens in a power cut?
PDLC glass goes back to frosted, the private state. That is the safe default for meeting rooms and bathrooms. DLC film goes back to its dark, shaded state.
How fast does it switch?
PDLC goes clear in under 10 milliseconds, so it feels instant. DLC switches in under a second.
How much power does it use?
Very little. PDLC uses under 4 W per square metre while clear and nothing while private. DLC uses about 2 W per square metre. A 10 square metre glass wall uses about as much as one light bulb.
How big can a panel be?
PDLC film comes in widths of 1000, 1200, 1500 and 1800 mm, and the calculator on each product page takes widths up to 1800 mm. DLC film goes up to 2200 mm wide for lamination and 1840 mm for retrofit. Send us your sizes and we will confirm the best layout.
Can I use it on sun-facing or outdoor glass?
Yes, with the Exterior High Temp PDLC film. It is rated from −35 to 95 °C and suits shopfronts, facades and sun-facing windows. The Interior High VLT film is rated from −30 to 75 °C and is made for glass inside the building.
How do I control it?
With a wall switch, a remote, an app or your building management system. Each pane or zone can be wired separately, so one part can be private while the rest stays clear. DLC can also be dimmed in steps.
Can I project onto PDLC glass?
Yes. In the frosted state PDLC works as a rear-projection screen, which is popular for meeting rooms and shop windows.
How long does the film last?
The film is rated for more than 80,000 hours switched on. Ask us about the warranty terms for your project.
How do I clean it?
Smart film (retrofit, stuck on your glass): wipe it with a damp cloth only, never wet, and no sprays or cleaning liquids. Smart glass (film laminated inside the glass): clean it like any window, with normal window cleaner.
How do I order the sizes I need?
Use the calculator on the product page. Enter the width, length, quantity and busbar position, or upload an Excel list with all your panels. Products marked price on request can still go into the cart: we confirm the price and email you the order with a payment link.
Do you ship and install outside Singapore?
We supply and install projects in Singapore, India and the Middle East. For other countries, send us your drawings and we will confirm shipping and lead time.
How long does an order take?
It depends on the sizes and quantity. Send us your drawings or panel list and we will confirm the lead time with your quote.
